Stockings

For my 5-6 year olds' art class, I gave them a Christmas stocking project. The purpose of this lesson is to have the kids create and understand more about patterns. For the younger kids, they can keep the shapes and patterns simple, and focus more on their coloring skills. For the older kids, they can design scenes with Santa and all things Christmas. This project can really be made as simple or complex as the child's ability calls for.

For this project, the kids learned to use a framing device (Christmas lights) to showcase their subject instead of drawing a background.  They also love getting their fingers dirty experimenting with pastels!

These are not the best photographs to do these pictures justice!
